Young people in Moray are being offered the chance to make a film about where they live.

Secondary schools and youth groups have been invited to highlight how and why a local place – it could be farmland, a forest, a high street or an empty site – is important to them.

The two best written entries will then be awarded £500 to go make a film about that place, with the finished productions being projected in Edinburgh later this year.

The competition is part of the Scottish Land Commission’s ‘MyLand.Scot’ initiative, with the finished films set to be projected in Edinburgh later this year.

Hamish Trench, the organisation's chief executive, said: "This is an exciting chance for young people across Scotland to engage in the conversation around land use, ownership and management and how it has shaped their communities – and to use their creativity bringing it to life through a short film.

"Land is at the heart of Scotland’s identity. This competition provides a platform for the younger generation to share their connection to it."

Secondary schools across Scotland will receive information directly about how to submit an application.

Youth organisations for people aged 11-19 can find full details on the MyLand.scot website.
